Algorithm of Biological Treatment for Depression in Schizophrenia

Abstract

Depression is the most common coPoccurring syndrome in schizophrenia associated with worsening of quality of life and course of illness, also with high morbidity and mortality rates.
There are number of issues in differential diagnosis of this condition and treatment approaches including both pharmacotherapy and brain stimulation techniques. Brief review of present
evidencePbased data, including systematic reviews and metaPanalyses, as well as recommendations of international expert groups (particularly of World Federation of Societies of Biological
Psychiatry – WFSBP) is given in this article. Schematic algorithm of diagnostic and therapeutic options with indication of level of evidence and descriptions is provided in this publication.
