Consolidation of achievements of organizational and Clinical Psychology in the Rehabilitation of Patients with Schizophrenia: An Integrative Programme of Motivational Training

Abstract

Relevance. The problem of motivation disorders in schizophrenic spectrum disorders is considered as one of the key problems in the process of rehabilitation work with patients. It is
necessary to increase efficiency of existing motivational training aimed at strengthening compliance and stimulation of the active position of patients in solving the problems of social and
psychological adaptation after suffering a psychosis. The proposed original program of motivational training combines the most significant developments of organizational and clinical psychology
in the field of psychology of motivation and its disorders.
Materials and methods. The study was conducted on the basis of Psychiatric clinical hospital № 4 P.B. Gannushkina. After a long stage of development, testing and improvement, a
pilot study of the effectiveness of the integrative motivational training program (IPMT) was conducted. The total number of participants tested – 33 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia,
schizotypic and delusional disorders (F20–F29 by ICD-10). The total number of participants in each group is from 6 to 10 people. The study was conducted before and after training using
self-evaluation techniques: the scale of social avoidance and distress – SADS (Watson D., Friend R.; adaptation V.V. Krasnova, A.B. Kholmogorova, 2011), the method of “Diagnostics of
self-efficacy” (Maddux Dg. and Scheer M.; adapting A.V. Boyarintseva, 2011), the method of “Indicator coping strategies” (Amikhran D.; adaptation N.A. Sirota, V.M. Yaltonskiy, 1995), the
method “Compliance” (Kholmogorova A.B., Rychkova O.V., 2013), the Questionnaire feedback.
Summary. The developed program of motivational training for patients with schizophrenia includes modules that connect the development of organizational and clinical psychology in the
field of motivation psychology. Its specificity consists in focusing on the processes of goal formation and achievement of goals. The pilot study of the effectiveness showed that the proposed
program contributes to significant positive changes in the motivational sphere of patients: increased willingness to cooperate with specialists, reduced the level of social distress and avoidance
in contacts with other people, using more constructive strategies to achieve goals and solve problems.
Conclusions. The prospects of the research work and its practical significance consist in expanding the sample for further testing the effectiveness of the program with the prospect of its
use in the wide practice of rehabilitation of patients with schizophrenia.
