Abstract

Bipolar affective disorder (BAD) is a serious public health problem associated with significant morbidity and a high risk of mortality. The data presented in the article on the high somatic comorbidity in patients with bipolar disorder, the common pathophysiological mechanisms of somatic and mental pathology, the pathogenetic basis of bipolar disorder, the spectrum of receptor activity of cariprazine, as well as the results of studies on the safety of the drug in patients with bipolar disorder, allow us to conclude that the use cariprazine in these patients opens up new perspectives in the treatment of this disorder. Benefits of using cariprazine include minimal anticholinergic, adrenergic, histaminergic, metabolic, and hyperprolactinemia-related side effects.
