Сhallenges and opportunities differentiated therapy of patients with bipolar disorder

Abstract

This article describes the opportunities and challenges of modern drug therapy of bipolar disorder based on a differentiated approach to the choice of the drug, depending on the characteristics of the disease (the predominant polarity phases and the presence of psychotic symptoms), provides data on the clinical efficacy of mood stabilizers and atypical antipsychotics in various stages of treatment of bipolar disorder, describes the properties of the individual drugs in terms of continuity of care from the therapy of acute phase to prevention a recurrence.
