Sleep disorders in psychiatrists practice

Abstract

Mental disorders leads to the disturbances of cerebral and behavioral mechanisms of sleep regulation. Most common sleep disorder among psychiatric patients is insomnia. Insomnia could be of secondary origin as a feature of mental disorders. The diagnosis of primary insomnia implies the absence of psychopathology or dependence, it could be suspected by the presence of typical signs like identifiable stressor, «fear of sleep», sleep misperception, inadequate sleep hygiene. Another common sleep disorder is obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. In this case hypersomnolence coud be misinterpreted as a psychopathological sign.
