THE USE OF AMISULPRIDE (SOLIAN) IN THE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA (BASED ON OBSERVATIONAL STUDY SOROS-3)
Abstract
Aim: to evaluate the tolerability and efficacy acute and maintenance treatment with Solian (amisulpride) in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: 876 patients with acute episode of schizophrenia have been included in observational study . They were treated with Solian for 2 months. 328 patients treated with Solian for 6 months were included in the group of maintenance therapy of schizophrenia. The severity score (CGI-S) was the primary evaluation in the both groups. Results: the average severity score for the patients with acute conditions after 2 months of treatment with amisulpride decreased by 41.6% (p < 0.001) and after 6 months of maintenance treatment – by 31.5% (p < 0.001). The number of patients with "very much" and "much" improvement (CGI) after acute treatment was 83.5% in general, and after maintenance treatment – 72.6 % of patients. Acute treatment in the majority of cases (87.8 % of patients) began and was held in the dose range of 400–800 mg/day
(maximum average dose – 692.0 ± 220,8 mg/day). The same dose range were observed in 2/3 of patients receiving maintenance therapy (at lower maximum average dose – 450.5 ± 217,6 mg/day). During the acute treatment, the adverse events occurred more frequently (23.2% of patients) than in the course of maintenance (18.6% of patients)
due to higher average doses used in the treatment of acute conditions. Conclusion: The results of the observational study demonstrated high efficacy and good tolerability of amisulpride (Solian) in schizophrenic patients with acute phase and maintenance treatment stage.
