Efficacy of benzodiazepines in catatonia complicated by neuroleptic malignant syndrome (case report)

Abstract

This publication presents the clinical observation, which demonstrates the efficacy of benzodiazepines (parenteral administration of phenazepam) in neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) and catatonia. Curation of patients with catatonic symptoms is a special problem in a therapeutic practice of psychiatrists. Most patients are characterized by poor tolerance of the majority of antipsychotic drugs. High efficiency of lorazepam and diazepam application in case of catatonia is confirmed, but no data was found in usage of phenazepam. A significant number of such cases in psychiatric practice require more attention to this problem, thus, there is a scientific and practical interest in this clinical case.
