Parenteral benzodiazepine tranquilizers in psychiatric practice
Abstract
Provides an overview of the studies of efficacy and safety of parenteral benzodiazepine tranquilizers (BDP) in psychiatry. Presents brief information on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic performance of this group of drugs. Detail numerous clinical implication of parenteral BDP in the emergency department for treatment of agitation, extremely anxiety and сatatonia. Much of the article is devoted to practical aspects of the use of BDP including provides guidance on minimizing the risk of addiction, recommendation for tapering and antidote therapy.
