Methods of psychological correction of social cognition’s deficits in schizophrenia

Abstract

During the last decades in the foreign literature indicates the growing interest in the study of the social cognition‘s deficits in schizophrenia. A wealth of evidence has revealed that deficits in social cognitive skills (including facial affect recognition, social cue perception, Theory of Mind, and others) are evident in schizophrenia. Because intact social cognitive skills are vital for negotiating successful interpersonal interactions and are deficient in many individuals with schizophrenia, it is important to identify treatment methods that can effectively remediate impaired social cognition. The purpose of this article was to conduct a review of the types of training offered to people with schizophrenia in order to help them develop strategies to cope with or compensate for social cognition‘s deficits. Our review has provided reason for optimism regarding these interventions,  showing that all reviewed «targeted» social cognitive training programs demonstrate that social cognition‘s deficits can be ameliorated.
