Algorithms for biological treatment of schizoprenia

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of algorithms of biological therapy in schizophrenia. The algorithms were compiled using a standardized method adopted be the Section of biological therapy of mental disorders of Russian Society of Psychiatrists. The algorithms were drafted using current literature data (systematic reviews and meta-analyzes) as well as clinical recommendations of international expert groups (in particular, the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry - WFSBP). Four algorithms are presented: algorithm for acute schizophrenia, algorithm for depression in schizophrenia, algorithm for agitation and aggression, and algorithm of choosing the appropriate antipsychotic in various clinical situations.
Recommendations for some clinical scenarios (manifest episode, treatment-resistant conditions, maintenance therapy, treatment of cognitive, negative and catatonic symptoms) are presented in summary form in the text of the paper (with the categories of evidence).
