Dynamics of psychopathological disorders in patients with acute schizophrenia in usage of risperidon and haloperidol

Abstract

The article presents the results of the open comparative study the aim of which was an investigation of the dynamics of psychopathological symptoms in acute schizophrenic patients treated with risperidone and haloperidol. Material and methods: 28 patients (average age of 26.3±1.2 years) with a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia, the observation period, less than a year (F20.09 on ICD-10) with the total PANSS score ≥ 60 (average total PANSS score – 92,3±5,5) by the method of random samples were distributed into two groups of 14 patients each: receiving haloperidol in a dose of 15–20 mg/day and risperidone 6–8 mg/day. On the 4-th and 8-th week of therapy was estimated psychopathology (PANSS) and cognitive functions ( psychological testing). Results: in risperidone group positive symptoms were reduced faster than in haloperidol group. Reduction of negative symptoms was observed in the group of risperidone, but not in a group of haloperidol
