Clinical experience with paliperidone palmitate in the treatment of paranoid schizophrenia in outpatient practice. Description of the medical case

Abstract

The article describes a medical case report of successful treatment of a patient suffering from paranoid schizophrenia with frequent exacerbations and increasing negative symptoms with the new injectable atypical antipsychotic paliperidone palmitate. The patient received therapy with paliperidone palmitate in the department of rehabilitation neuropsychiatric clinic within a half years at a dosage of 100 mg. This case illustrate how the use of paliperidonepalmitate leads to stabilization of the mental state of patients, improve noncompliance. Paliperidone palmitate may reduce both positive and negative symptoms, affect the recovery of cognitive function in patients with schizophrenia. It has taken one year to achieve desired effect. Over the entire period of treatment paliperidone palmitate were not observed extrapyramidal symptoms and other adverse effects associated with taking paliperidone palmitate.
