Experience of alprazolam usage in a complex therapy of psychiatric disorders

Abstract

Literature data characterizing the features of the mechanism of action of alprazolam, its psychotropic effects, tolerability, and the possibility of its use in various mental disorders, confirmed by numerous scientific studies, are analyzed. The author presents his own experience of using alprazolam, mainly in combination with drugs of other psycho-pharmacological groups (antidepressants, antipsychotics, anticonvulsants), in mental illness: depression of various genesis, anxiety-phobic spectrum disorders, obsessions. The high efficiency and good tolerability of alprazjlam in 124 patients who were on inpatient and outpatient treatment in a psychiatric clinic, the absence of dependence syndrome and withdrawal syndrome when using small daily doses of the drug (from 0.5 to 1.5 mg) were shown.
